The Idea

The design doesn't get value-engineered away.

Distinct Build is a partnership between an architect and a builder. For years we built each other's work — Todd's designs, Steve's execution — on homes for some of the most demanding architects and clients in the country. This is what happens when we build them for ourselves.

Developed as a work, not a product

Most spec homes are a compromise by design. A developer chases margin, design is an afterthought, and whatever architecture survives gets stripped before the drywall goes up. Buyers feel it, even when they can't name it.

When the architect and the builder are the developer, the incentive flips. No one is rewarded for stripping the design for margin — the people who own the outcome are the same people who drew it and built it. What a buyer gets is the house an architect and a master builder would make if no one were telling them no: finished, and ready to live in.

Each one is distinct. That's the whole idea.

"We bring high-end design and planning to homes at every price bracket — synthesizing design and construction, eliminating the constant churn of client changes, so we build better homes through a better process."

— Todd Webb

Why It Holds Up

Four things change when the architect and builder develop as one.

01

Design integrity, preserved

The vision that makes the house worth a premium is the vision that gets built — end to end, with no one incentivized to cut it.

02

Architect-grade, delivered turnkey

The design you'd otherwise wait two or three years to commission — finished, and available now. The rarest thing in the market.

03

Owner-aligned craft

They own the outcome, so the build isn't sacrificed for a quicker exit. The incentive and the craftsmanship point the same direction.

04

A story that markets itself

Every home carries an architect's name and a builder's pedigree — provenance no commodity spec home can claim.

05

Proven, present tense

This isn't a theory. The team has built together before, has collaborations underway, and has its first home in construction.

"What a buyer gets is the house an architect and a master builder would make if no one were telling them no — finished, and ready to live in."

Commissions

Want it built for you?

Most of what we make, we develop ourselves. But the same architect-and-builder team can take a commission — if you have a site or a vision, we'll design and build it as one, to the same standard we'd hold on any home of our own. The difference is simply who it's for.

We keep it to a few at a time, so the work stays distinct. If that's the kind of home you're after, the door is open.
